Pima Medical Institute Invites Public To Help With Their Shoe and Boot Drive
Mesa, AZ (PRWEB) June 24, 2007
The students, staff and faculty at Pima Medical Institute, 947 S. Dobson Road in Mesa are working heart and “sole” to help the homeless in the Phoenix metro area this summer. The career college announced they will be conducting a Boot and Shoe Drive now through July 13 to benefit the homeless people in the greater Phoenix area.
The drive, organized by the Nursing Program, is collecting new and used men’s and women’s shoes to be distributed at the Lodestar Day Resource Center, 1125 W. Jackson St. in Phoenix. The public can drop off shoes and boots in bins located inside the Mesa campus.
Accepted donations include: clean shoes in good repair, with good inner and outer soles, with fasteners intact (PMI can supply laces if needed); tennis shoes, work boots, hiking boots, sneakers, slip on tennis shoes, walking shoes, deck shoes.
Shoes can be any size, however, larger men and women sizes, and wide widths are always needed the most, according to Sharon Caves, Nurse Education Coordinator for PMI’s Nursing School, and coordinator of the shoe drive. Discouraged donations include: dress shoes, sandals, high heels of any kind, flip flops, narrow width shoes, plastic or jelly type shoes.
“We have set a goal of 250 pairs of new and used to protect tired and often infected feet from the burning hot pavement,” said Caves. “These folks walk for miles, and stand in line for hours for simple comforts such as medical care, meals and showers. Any support we can receive from the public to assist us in this project would be much appreciated.”
